First State Mustang and Ford Club goes bowling

Let’s get members together during the off season, what can we do? We hear it all the time and then need to think of an activity. This year, First State Mustang and Ford Club decided to have a bowling event. Bowling is not for everyone, but as long as we get some members to participate or hang out and watch, it’s a win for me. We decided to have it in February, but Mother Nature could not decide if we were going to have bad weather that day or not. Was it rain and then snow, was it snow and then rain, was it just rain, was it just snow? We did not know, and since our club has members from Lower Delaware to Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey, it was decided to reschedule to March for the safety of our members. So, on March 22 our bowling event took place. Mother Nature decided to give us a 70 degree Spring Day. You can’t make this up, however at least we did not have to worry about snow/rain or our members traveling in bad weather. We just had to hope they had their sunglasses on so that they wouldn’t be blinded by the bright light in the sky.

Our first ever bowling event took place at Mid-County Lanes in Middletown, Delaware. They welcomed us with a photo array of 2 member cars and our club logo broadcasted on the monitors at the end of the lanes where we would be bowling. It was pretty cool what they came up with, I just asked if we could have our club logo up there, they did the rest.

We had 16 people join us, all skill levels and ages from young to seniors. It was nice to see some different faces attend. Mid-County had 6 lanes reserved for us, and we used 5 of them. The 6th lane gave us a buffer between us and the patrons there for open bowl. They gave us a price of $20 for 2 hours of bowling and shoe rental. That resulted in 2 solid games of bowling for all of us and a few frames in the third game. Although one couple put the rest of us to shame by bowling 3 full games before most of us finished 2! They told me that they hadn’t bowled in 30 years and had a great time. That’s what we were hoping to accomplish.

It was great to hear that people had a good time, I know I did, but I am only one of 16 people. It was great to hear bowlers clapping and cheering for each other when they bowled a good ball, and also saying they were robbed when they didn’t get that strike or spare. It was all about the comradery of our members and their families. This is an event that I hope we continue in the future and have more people join us along the way.
